What kind of submissions grabs your attention?
The kind of submissions that grab my attention are digital photography, sculpture and drawing. I love seeing color, concept, and the hard work that went into creating something physical. This isn’t to say that I don’t love poetry or prose pieces—they are awesome as well, and show the hard work the writer put into them. But there needs to be a balance between art and literature pieces to create a successful journal.
What’s your favorite book?
This question is a tough one. I have a too many favorite books. I think the best way to narrow this down is to just say that my favorite author is Chuck Palahniuk. His work is weird and shocking. He keeps my attention with every word on the page. Choke wasthe first book of his that I read and it got me hooked. It was one of the most bizarre stories I had ever read in the most amazing way. That one will always be a favorite of mine because it was my first. I also love Rant, Fight Club and Survivor (just to name a few).
What makes you smile?
A lot of things make me smile! Anything from a well-timed “Dad Joke,” to the antics my cat gets himself into, to a delicious home cooked meal. I have a lot of fun with friends, I think we spend most of our time hanging out, absolutely cracking up with each other. I could spend hours playing with my cat, he’s only four so he’s young, and still thinks he’ll catch that red dot. I enjoy looking up recipes on Pinterest and trying out new things in the kitchen.

Hello! My name is Mary Redman. I am a Graphic Design major with a second concentration in Photography. I will be graduating in Spring 2020. I’ve always been interested in my creative side. Anything from doodling to finding interesting recipes to try out in the kitchen! I’m excited to be working on The Bridge this year and look forward to learning new things.
