Staff members share insights into their personal and professional lives.
What kind of submission grabs your attention?
When an author is true to themselves it can be obvious in their piece. Oftentimes, people think they need to use abstractions to relate more to the audience, but thinking too much about the audience can get in the way of the author’s true voice. The kind of work that grabs my attention are those that show the author’s authentic self or style, not work rooted in clichés.
What makes you smile?
Dogs, always. And a good terrible pun that makes other people roll their eyes.
What is your creative focus/aesthetic inspiration?
I may be interpreting this question differently than intended, but that doesn’t make it wrong. Klaus Hargreeves from Netflix’s The Umbrella Academy has an aesthetic attitude that I aspire to. His ‘don’t care what others think while caring about others’ attitude makes me want to be more myself (not to mention his aesthetic surrounding fashion is amazing).
